2. Don't Stop Believin'

Album cover of Escape featuring songs by the band Journey and the song Don't Stop Believing

Don't Stop Believing was a huge song for Journey in 1981 reaching #9 on the charts. It was re-born of sorts in 2010 when the cast of Glee performed a cover of the song and it shot up to #6 in the UK.

The song can be found on the bands "Escape" album.

I play this with a capo 2nd fret with mainly down strokes for a rhythm pattern in standard tuning. You'll need the chords D, A, Bm, G, D, A, Gbm, G, C/G, Dmaj7 and Dsus and be prepared for some lead work.

3. Faithfully

Album cover of Frontiers featuring songs by the band Journey and the song Faithfully

Faithfully is from the bands 1983 the album "Frontiers", which was released and written by keyboardist Jonathan Cain.

He wrote it in about 30 minutes about the challenges of being married and being a touring rock musician. Ironically after the songs release, Jonathan and his wife divorced.  The song reached #12 on the Billboard chart.

I play this with a capo 4th because of the vocals being too high so I'm on the low end, in standard tuning. For rhythm play a down down up down up down up will work as you blend in the riff in this song. The chords are G, Em, D, C, Bm and Am.

5. Lights

Album cover of Infinity featuring songs by the band Journey and the song Lights

Lights was written by Steve Perry about Los Angeles originally, but never had it quite finished when he joined Journey. After moving to San Francisco where the band originated, he modified the lyrics and finished the song.

Released as a single in 1977, the song was only a minor hit peaking at #68 on Billboard. But live, it's a concert favourite. The song can be found on the bands "Infinity" album.

For rhythm if you're playing just strums you could play down down down up down up and repeat. But as as you'll see here I'm using a bit or arpeggio mixed with rhythm. There is some lead here in standard tuning with the chords D, Bm, C, G and A.

7. Oh Sherri

Album cover of Street Talk featuring songs by the band Journey and the song Oh Sherri

Oh Sherri was a single from Steve Perry when he went solo from Journey,  but in 1984 he was still a member of the band while releasing his solo album "Street Talk".

He scored a #1 hit with the release of this song which was Perry's first single and his only #1 hit song.

I play this one with a capo 3rds fret and drop D tuning with the chords D, C, Em, G, F, Bm, A, A6/B and Bm/A. There is some lead in here playing a down down up down down up and repeat rhythm pattern.

8. Open Arms

Album cover of Escape featuring songs by the band Journey and the song Open Arms

Open Arms almost never saw the light of day. Keyboardist Jonathan Cain didn't quite have the song finished in a previous group he worked in and when Steve Perry came along, the two co-wrote and finished the song.

But other band members were not on board with doing rock ballads. Eventually they gave in and this song became Journey's biggest hit, reaching #2 in 1982.

Mariah Carey had a #4 hit in the UK with her cover of the song in 1996.

Played with a capo 2nd fret in standard tuning, a down down up down up and repeat rhythm pattern will work for this one. No lead but a few riffs in the rhythm with the chords D, A/Db, Bm, A, G, G/Db, Em and C7.

10. Wheel In The Sky

Album cover of Infinity featuring songs by the band Journey and the song Wheel In The Sky

Wheel In The Sky hails from Journey's 4th album which was recorded in 1977 called "Infinity". This song kinda open the door for the band becoming their first top 100 songs peaking at #57.

The bass player Ross Valory's wife (Diane) actually wrote the song which was originally called Wheels In My Mind.

You'll need a little arpeggio in the beginning then a down down up down down up and repeat rhythm pattern, almost like a gallop rhythm with a few hammer-on's blended in. Some lead here in standard tuning with the chords D, F, C, A#, Dm, G and G6.
