Kathy Mattea is an American country music and bluegrass singer. She was born on June 21, 1959, in South Charleston, West Virginia. Mattea rose to fame in the 1980s and 1990s with a string of country hits and became known for her traditional country sound mixed with folk and bluegrass influences.

Some of Kathy Mattea's most well-known songs include "Eighteen Wheels and a Dozen Roses," "Where've You Been," "Come From the Heart," and "Burnin' Old Memories." She has won multiple Grammy Awards throughout her career, including Best Female Country Vocal Performance for "Where've You Been" and Best Southern, Country, or Bluegrass Gospel Album for "Good News."

Eighteen Wheels and a Dozen Roses is a song written by Paul Nelson and Gene Nelson. American country music singer Kathy Mattea recorded it.

The song came out in March 1988 as the second single from her album "Untasted Honey." In that same year, it reached number one on both the US and Canadian Country charts.

The song tells the story of a truck driver named Charlie. After working for thirty years, Charlie decides to retire to spend more time with his wife. The song talks about Charlie getting a gold watch, which is a common gift for retiring. In the chorus, the song counts down from 18 (the number of wheels on a truck) to 12 (the roses), until Charlie finally gets to the "one" he loves, his wife.

The music video for the song was directed by May/Sams.

2. Come From The Heart

Come from the Heart is a classic country music song written by Richard Leigh and Susanna Clark back in 1987. Kathy Mattea made it famous with her 1989 single, released alongside her album "Willow in the Wind."

The song was first heard on Don Williams' 1987 album "Traces" and later on Clark's husband's album "Old Friends" in 1988.

Mattea's version of the song became her third number one hit on the country chart. It stayed on the chart for 14 weeks, including one week at the very top. In 2014, the band Hard Working Americans, with Todd Snider as the frontman, recorded the song as a duet with Rosanne Cash.

3. Goin' Gone

Goin' Gone was written by Pat Alger, Bill Dale, and Fred Koller, and it was sung by American country music artist Kathy Mattea. It came out in September 1987 as the first single from her album "Untasted Honey."

This song marked Mattea's ninth hit in country music and the first of four songs to reach number one on the country music charts. It stayed at the top for a week and spent fifteen weeks on the country chart.

Before Mattea's version, the song was first recorded in 1985 by Nanci Griffith for her album "The Last of the True Believers."

Pat Alger, one of the songwriters, played guitar on both Griffith's and Mattea's albums.
