With her enchanting voice and
captivating stage presence, Linda Ronstadt has left an indelible mark on
the music industry. From her early days in the 1960s folk-rock scene to
her reign as the "Queen of Rock" in the 1970s and her exploration of
diverse musical genres, Ronstadt's career has been defined by her
remarkable talent, versatility, and unwavering passion for music.
On this page I'll explain to you how I play one of her numbers called Long Long Time on the acoustic guitar. You'll find a free pdf chord sheet below as well.
Long Long Time was originally released on Linda Ronstadt's album titled "Silk Purse" in 1970. "Silk Purse" was Ronstadt's second solo studio album. The track was written by Gary White, a songwriter and producer known for his work with various artists in the 1960s and 1970s.
Long Long Time was a significant hit for Linda Ronstadt, reaching number 25 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1970, becoming one of her early successful singles. The song also reached the top 10 on the Easy Listening chart (now known as the Adult Contemporary chart).
The song is a poignant ballad that expresses the feelings of heartbreak and longing. The lyrics reflect the pain and sadness of a lost love, emphasizing the emotional toll of a relationship's end. The song beautifully captures the depth of emotions and the longing for someone who is no longer there.
Although Linda Ronstadt recorded several music videos throughout her career, there is no official music video created specifically for "Long Long Time." During the early 1970s, music videos were not as prevalent as they are today, and promotional efforts often focused on live performances, TV appearances, and album cover art.
"Long Long Time" remains one of Linda Ronstadt's iconic songs, showcasing her emotive vocals and ability to convey heartfelt emotions. Its chart success and enduring popularity solidify its place as a beloved classic in her discography.
Love will abide - take things in stride
Sounds like good advice - but there's no one at my side
And time washes clean - love's wounds unseen
That's what someone told me - but I don't know what it means'
Cause I've - done everything I know - to try and make you mine
And I think I'm gonna love you - for a long long time
Break
Caught in my fears - blinking back the tears
I can't say that you hurt me - when you never let me near
And I never drew - one response from you
All the while you fell all over girls you never knew'
And I've done everything I know - to try and make you mine
And I think it's gonna hurt me - for a long long time
Break
Wait for the day - you'll go away
Knowing that you warned me - of the price I'd have to pay
And life's full of flaws - who knows the cause?
Living in the memory - of a love that never was'
Cause I've done everything I know - to try and change your mind
And I think I'm gonna miss you - for a long long time
'Cause I've done everything I know - to try and make you mine
And I think I'm gonna love you - for a long long time
As you can see, I'm playing this one with a capo on the first fret. But depending on your vocals you may not need the capo, but either way it won't change the chord sequence.
The chords you'll need here are C, D, Em, G, A7, Em/D and a B7.
There
are two ways you can play rhythm on this song. The first is with a bit of arpeggio using a one two down up one two down up for the verses and in the chorus you can play a root up down up root up down up.
The
picking break here is a bit of the melody and a little slide on the Em so a fairly easy play.
In the world of music, few artists can match the impact and artistry of Linda Ronstadt. Her extraordinary vocals, coupled with her ability to effortlessly traverse various musical genres, have made her an icon and an inspiration for generations of musicians and fans alike.
