Who Is Arlo Guthrie?

who is arlo guthrie

Arlo Guthrie is an American folk singer-songwriter best known for his storytelling songs and connection to the folk music tradition. He is the son of legendary folk musician Woody Guthrie, and he carried on his father’s legacy with his own unique style.

Arlo's music often explores social and political themes, reflecting the counterculture spirit of the 1960s and beyond.

One of Arlo's most famous songs is "Alice's Restaurant," a humorous, anti-war anthem that became a cultural touchstone. He has released numerous albums over his long career, blending folk, rock, and blues influences.

Arlo Guthrie’s music continues to inspire generations with its wit, warmth, and commitment to social justice.

1. City Of New Orleans

city of new orleans arlo guthrie

City Of New Orleans was written by Steve Goodman and recorded by many artists down through the years including Arlo Guthrie, Willie Nelson and others. This was Arlo Guthrie's only top 40 hit when it was released from his 1972 album Hobo's Lullaby.

I'm singing this one in the key of A with a capoed 2nd fret. The chord I'm using are G, D, Em, C, Bm, D7, Em/D, Asus2/Db and an F. You can use a root down up root up down up rhythm pattern and put a bit of a picking break in here but not required.
